Technical writer

We are looking for a Technical Writer

A software development and IT consultancy needs an intelligent and articulate technical writer to prepare end user documentation. The project involves taking the existing documentation available here and expanding and improving upon it. We will also be moving it into another format (docbook) but this role is not a very technical one: the most important skill is being able to write clear documentation comprehensible by end users of all levels.

Although some work would be at our offices in Newtown, there is plenty of flexibility in both hours worked and where the work is done.

Environment

ish is a growing consultancy with a reputation for excellence over the 15 years of our operation. We solve business problems with IT solutions, write custom software and sell support services, software and hardware. Our work is varied, with broadcast video post-production, performing arts, venue management, insurance, graphic design, law and recruitment firms amongst our clients. We produce software and web applications for a range of industries.

Operating from a designer converted warehouse in Newtown, the work environment is comfortable and human: not a fluorescent light in sight. We enjoy what we do. The software that we write and systems we build are critical to daily business of our customers – our work must meet very high standards. Open source software is a large part of our toolset and we make time to contribute back to a variety of projects.

Requirements

Demonstrated skills and experience, together with attitude and work ethic, are vastly more important than formal qualifications.

• Clear expression and a sound command of the English language are critically important.


• The successful candidate must be quick-thinking, able to understand the software and the education industry’s needs.


• Experience with DocBook would be very useful, but not essential.


• Experience of the education industry and terminology is useful, but not essential.
