Secure Client/Server Connection (SSL)
Secure Client/Server Connection (SSL)
This is an advanced feature of onCourse that needs to be enabled, please see here
Normally traffic between onCourse clients and onCourse server are unencrypted with the server listening on a default port of 8181.
After this feature is enabled, the server will listen on port 8182 on which any connections that are made will be encrypted.
Secure Client/Server Connection (SSL) preferences
There is also an additional preference to only allow connections on the encrypted port, which can be found by going to the general preferences of onCourse.
Clients wishing to connect securely should tick the “Secure connection (SSL)” box after the expanding the “Advanced” section on the client.
After initiating a secure connection, the user will get a dialog informing them that they are attempting to connect to a secure server and be informed of the certificate details that are being presented in order. The user will need to click on “Trust” before they can continue with the connection.
Note: After enabled or disbaling the SSL settings, the server will require a restart before they take effect.
