Java analyst developer
We are looking for a full time Java analyst developer
A software development and IT consultancy needs an intelligent and articulate programmer to work on a variety projects. The primary focus will be on a shrink-wrap product which is a student enrolment management system. There is plenty of variety with regular projects for our clients in many sectors.Our work is evenly divided between web based online systems and dynamic web sites, and client-server database centric rich GUI applications. The development environments used are:
- Java
- Cayenne
- Swing
- WebObjects
- a range of other languages for small specific things: PHP, Perl, shell, 4D
- Eclipse, junit, ant
- Apple OSX, FreeBSD, Linux and Windows
We make enormous use of open source projects wherever possible and support those communities. We currently make extensive use of Cayenne, JasperReports, Jetty, Ant, Derby, Apache httpd, mysql and many more libraries. Our operating systems of choice are OSX and FreeBSD. Some part of this role may include contributing toward open source projects.
The role involves working closely with existing ish programmers and there will be plenty of support provided. Depending on the applicant, in addition to programming, the role will involve client requirements gathering, project management and budgeting and planning release schedules. Considerable latitude can be given to shaping the role to suit your skills and interests.

Our work is varied, with broadcast video post-production, performing arts, venue management, insurance, graphic design, law and recruitment firms amongst our clients. We produce software and web applications for a range of industries.
Operating from a designer converted warehouse in Newtown, the work environment is comfortable and human: not a fluorescent light in sight. We enjoy what we do. The software that we write and systems we build are critical to daily business of our customers – our work must meet very high standards. Open source software is a large part of our toolset and we make time to contribute back to a variety of projects.

Requirements
Demonstrated skills and experience, together with attitude and work ethic, are vastly more important than formal qualifications.
- Clear expression and a sound command of the English language are critically important.
- The successful candidate must be quick-thinking, able to analyse customer needs and design.
- Very strong Java skills are essential. J2EE or Swing experience would be useful.
- WebObjects/EOF/Cayenne experience would be very helpful, but not essential.
- A background in Unix/Linux (even to a basic level) is required.
