Date and time entry

Entering dates into onCourse is easy with these neat tricks.

Dates

In any date entry field within onCourse you can enter dates in a variety of formats. For starters, you can separate the day, month and year with different dividers. Some of your choices are:

  • 15-1-1975
  • 15/1/1975
  • 15.1.1975
  • 15 Jan 1975
  • 15 January 1975

There are more besides these as well: most punctuation will work.

You can also abbreviate the year like this

  • 15-1-75

A number more than five years into the future will be interpreted as being last century. So, 15-1-09 will be interpreted as 15-1-2009 but 15-1-15 will be interpreted as 15-1-1915.

If you leave off the year entirely such as 15-1 we assume you want a date in this year.

If you type really fast you may wish to use the number keypad and enter dates like this:

  • 150175
  • 15011975

Relative dates are also possible, so:

  • +10y (10 years from today)
  • -2m (2 months ago)
  • +3w (3 weeks from today)
  • +1d (tomorrow)
  • +1 (also tomorrow)

And you can combine dates like this:

  • 15-1-75 +3w (three weeks after the date you specify)

Times

We also have a range of flexibility with regard to time entry. So the following will all work:

  • 11:20 AM
  • 5p (-> 5:00 PM)
  • 11am
  • 23:00
