The Newtown Precinct is a collection of entertainment venues situated in Newtown, 5 minutes drive from Sydney’s CBD. Newtown hosts a wide variety of shows, including live music, art house cinema and performance art.

The challenge

The venues, in collaboration with Marrickville Council, asked us to create a web site that would help in the promotion of their upcoming shows.

The solution

We designed a site that provides information quickly and easily. Those browsing the site are able to see an overview of all upcoming events. There are also descriptions and directions for each venue, and technical information for producers. We also included the ability to search for shows by name or those showing at a particular time.

The result

One of the exciting things about the site is that there is no administrator. The venues themselves are able to log in to a secure interface and add or change details. This is both convenient and inexpensive, since it does not require the skills of a web designer to make the changes. Venue administrators are even able to upload images for upcoming events. The images are automatically resized, compressed and displayed on the site immediately. Different levels of password access allow each venue to change only the information they are given access to.
