The challenge

One Umbrella is a recruitment agency for library and knowledge management staff around Australia. As the leader in their field, much of their success depends on finding the right information quickly. Extensive resume collections must be searched and the right skills matched to any job.

The solution

ish worked with One Umbrella to enhance their in-house database system, allowing millions of pieces of information about applicant skils to be categorised and quickly searched. By creating an extremely flexible searching system, consultants can narrow down thousands of applicants to a handful with the right match. Of course it is then the individual knowledge of the consultant that allows them to select exactly the right person for the job from the final handful. Ari from ish wrote a powerful search function which performs time consuming searches in the background while the consultant fine tunes further criteria.

In addition, this entire database is replicated nationwide across all One Umbrella offices. Within minutes database changes are copied throughout the network, ensuring data is always accurate.

Finally, ish has just implemented replication systems for their file servers, allowing all offices to share the knowledge built elsewhere. Naturally all interstate commucations run across secure VPN tunnels, keeping confidential data safe.
